Venous Dermatitis

Venous dermatitis is a sign of relatively advanced and chronic venous disease which is also called varicose eczema. Venous dermatitis is an inflammatory skin change due to long term swelling and poor blood circulation. The skin will look swollen and take on a dark red or brownish colour.

Venous dermatitis usually develops on the medical ankle and distal shin, but can also form on other parts of the lower leg. Venous dermatitis can cause leg venous ulcer if it left untreated.

Treating underlying venous insufficiency to control venous high pressure , applying compression and meticulous skin care are management options for Venous dermatitis.
